U.S. Championship night

What a day!! We almost didn't get to play because of all the water in the outfield. What can i say about the 1st inning...its baseball and you have innings like that...unfortunately we just dug to deep a hole to bounce out of....the good news is the boys seem more wired tonight than when they win, and it is midnight here...hopefully we can get them to bed soon as we have an early game tomorrow. The hardest part for the boys was facing family...they wanted so much to bring the title home for them(and believed in their hearts they would)...but after the reconnect in the tent, it was all good. The family and friends were awesome. Tv land typically shows the boys that are upset. I do wish they would show the boys just 30 minutes after the game. We forget how it was when we were twelve, it really is only a game to them and life has already moved on. They are all arguing about which ones should pitch tomorrow. It is great to hear!!! For me, i figure it is Gods way of keeping the boys and I humble. He does that every now and then you know. They got to play for the US championship,it doesn't get much better than that at any age. The pressure is off and i am relieved. Tomorrow will be fun...till then.. coach lee

  1. Coach Lee,

That's great to hear. I agree they should show the boys 30 minutes after the game. If Troy is available to pitch tomorrow, and he wants too, why not give the ball to him to start. Once again he impressed me by his composure and coolness on the pitching mound in spite of coming into the game in relief behind and then giving up a 2 run homer. He is definitely a trooper. Of course, I only saw him from the TV vantage point. I've enjoyed your posts and following your team since the Regionals. It is an honor to be from the same state as you, Mike, these boys, and their families. Have fun tomorrow and beat Mexico for 3rd Place. Going 4-1 in the Little League World Series and making it to the US Championship is somehing to be proud of. Again, Great job of coaching. Tell the boys that they are Winners! God Bless.

  2. Your boys played every game with everything they had. That is all you can ask for. As to your "humble" statement:
"And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them...become as little children...whosoever shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
We watch these games with the minds of a seasoned, mature adult, and sometimes forget that they are still of innocence.
    Good luck tomorrow!

  3. Coach Willis:
I am 61 years old. I recall vividly memories of my days in little league, most of them positive. I just want to say how much I admired you as you comforted your near tearful pitcher on the mound yesterday. Your patience, demeanor, leadership are of the highest example of pure class - what a shining example you are. It's tough to lose, yes it is, but sometimes we learn and gain so much more in the process. I salute you and congratulate your staff, team and your organization. Bravo!!!!

My Dodgers cap goes off to you.

  4. Heres to you and the boys. I know the loss was hard but in the end it is just that, a game. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and for some reason that we don't know, he allowed the outcome to be the way it was. It my not be apparent at the time, but there is a reason for everything. We are not in control of life, we are merely passangers along for the ride. Enjoy the time you spent in Williamsport, remember the teams along the way who didn't make it nearly as far, don't harbor any hate for the victors but support them in their drive for victory later today. Remember, treat them like you'd want to be treated, you could have easily been in their cleats going into the game today.

With that, Id like to congratulate you again and again. You are a powerful group of young men with wonderful coaches. And the support from your family is unrivialed by any other team. Your parents are your biggest fans, and win or lose, you are champions in their eyes.

  5. Coach Lee,
I grew up in San Antonio and played little league ball on Fort Sam in the 1950's. I just wanted to congratulate you and your team and let you know that I think you are "absolutely" the finest coach I have ever had the pleasure of observing on the field. Your easy going leadership, fantastic demeanor and motivational skills with the youngsters on your team are impeccable and beyond reproach.
I live in San Diego and I am proud of the accomplishment of the Chula Vista team BUT... I am just as proud of your team. Both teams are winners in life and baseball!
I will be rooting for you and your team in just a few minutes when you play Mexico. Have a great day and good luck!
    Very Respectfully,

  8. I'm glad the boys are okay. They need not feel bad about the loss. Like you said its baseball. Not only that, but they should hold their heads high and be proud that they got to play in that game. Think about it this way, only 1 other team got to play in the US Championship game. We are so proud of them. They played well all season, obviously or they wouldn't have made it their. My 5 year old nephew was watching that game. He looked at me and said, "One day, I'm going to be on that field playing their game! I want to be like them!" So in my 5 year old nephews eyes, your boys are his heroes, his idols. I want to thank them for putting that light in his eyes. He has never expressed to me that he wants to be like someone before. So be proud, boys. You are coming home heroes and idols in the eyes of many here in Texas. Including myself. Good luck next season! I will continue to follow this blog just to see what is going on from time to time.

  9. Coach Lee,

I watched the interview last night with Nick and Troy on WOAI (via the internet since I don't live in SA). Troy is so composed not only on the pitchers mound but talking to the media even after a loss. He amazes me. I am so impressed with him both on and off the field (based solely from what I've seen and read). Nick did a good job too. He's another class act. Did Nick beat Luke Ramirez on Wii?

  10. Team McAllister: You kept many adults on the edge of their seats for a whole week. You are truly Champions! We are so proud of the way you represented the City and the Great State of TEXAS! We felt your joy and your pain, but never fear, you have a whole bunch of fans in here SA. I look forward to the hope of seeing some of you as Major League players one day. Coach - style, finese and grace come to mind in keeping the boys positive and on track. Congrads and we'll see you at the river parade.

  11. Wow...what a great trip for you guys...I am going to remind you that you are the only team that beat Chula Vista; what a gift from God to let you know that on a given day you beat the World Champions. Congrats. I want to say thank you to Lori Willis, as the cameras panned the stands after the game you were holding up two large signs "Go Southwest". One of the few times in my life as a sports mom that I can recall that I wish I had displayed that kind of support and class, we were in the SACS State soccor championships when our oldest David was on the team that didn't take the championship. If you had a camera on me you would have seen a very disappointed mom, and I know that you were as well, but your example is a blessing not only to Wyatt and the entire team but to all parents who have been a part of the sports arena from the sidelines; and have had the honor of cheering on the best of the best. Thanks Again. Way To Go!!
